Disney’s Contemporary Resort in Orlando

Disney’s Contemporary Resort is the epitome of Disney magic.  It was one of the first resorts to open on the Disney Orlando property in 1971 when it dazzled onlookers by its impressive, modern design.  It has been a popular destination ever since, and it’s easy to see why.

The futuristic aspects of the resort are embodied by the monorail that glides through the massive A-Frame building, known as Contemporary Tower. A soaring, modernist mural of the Grand Canyon provides a cheerful focal point to the concourse. Here, guests board the monorail and travel to storied locations like Epcot or The Magic Kingdom. Once arrived, it’s a quick shuttle ride to the other parks or Downtown Disney

Hotel Room Prices

Disney Contemporary Resort offers a variety of accommodation services. The contemporary tower is accompanied by the Bay Lake Tower and the more modest courtyard wing. All of this is along the Gulf Lake. Whether you are looking for something modern, sparkling or comfortable, the choices are endless.

Garden Wing

Beginning at $395 per night, a comfortable getaway in one of the suites of the Garden Wing can be yours. These standard view rooms provide a relaxing place to recharge after a long, fun-filled day

If you wish for a more magical escape, then a garden view room is available for a nominal charge. For just $10 more a night, you could be looking out onto the marina, Bay Lake, pools, or of course, the gardens.  Both options can sleep up to 5 adults, and you have the choice of 2 queen beds and 1-day bed, or 1 king bed and 1-day bed. (online reviews say that mattress quality is excellent!)

Most rooms are furnished with pull-out sofa beds to accommodate younger visitors. Upon request, a roll-away, twin sized bed can be provided as well. Depending on the package, these can be provided for free or a small fee. These options are perfect for children between the ages of 6 and 10 years old. So, no worries if you have extra visitors in tow.

Want something more deluxe at a reasonable price? Not a problem. The deluxe room in the Garden Wing starts at $484 per night.  More spacious than the standard or garden view rooms, it sleeps 4 people easily.  Including a king sized bed and a queen sized pull-out sofa, it provides views of the lake, pools, gardens, or marina.

Bay Lake Tower

The Bay Lake View room in the Tower at $551 per night, accommodates up to 5 people and has gorgeous views of Bay Lake. You can also stay in a room in the Tower with a view of Magic Kingdom.  Imagine watching the fireworks right from your own room! The price to stay here is $609 and the room sleeps up to 5 adults.

If you are staying with club-level service, then you have even more options. These rooms are located on higher floors, and are accompanied with larger balconies and full concierge services. Prices for these bells and whistles can vary based on availability and time of visit. The prices can rise to a whopping $2,089 per night for some of these luxury rooms and suites. If your heart is set on this, check for deals and rate changes. Sometimes there can be a price break in the ‘off-season’.

The style of these rooms is in keeping with the overall style of the resort; modern and minimalistic, with Disney flourishes.  All rooms include the following amenities:

  • Hairdryer
  • Free internet and Wi-Fi
  • Relaxing soaker tub
  • Telephone with answering machine services
  • Ironing board with iron
  • Coffee maker and mini-fridge
  • Secure safe, to store any goodies brought home from the parks.

Besides having the convenience of being a monorail ride away from the theme parks, the Contemporary Resort has so much to offer without ever leaving the hotel grounds. The Contemporary Feature Pool is always the perfect temperature for taking a trip down its 17-foot high water slide!  It’s enough to keep patrons, young and old, occupied for hours.

Or, you can simply lounge poolside amid views of the marina and white-sand beaches. Maybe even enjoy a soak in the hot tub located near the poolside bar, where able hands are ready to whip you up a cocktail.

You can also visit the Bay Lake Pool, which juts slightly out into the lake. Since loud noises and splashing are discouraged, here, it’s a great place for some down-time.

Perhaps you feel the need for some pampering. If that’s the case, the Contemporary Resort has you covered.  Rent a poolside cabana, and enjoy your own exclusive paradise. Decked out with a flat-screen TV, a mini-fridge, an iPod docking station, refreshments, and a resort telephone, it’s a fabulous spot to relax. The only other thing you could possibly need is someone to fan you with palm leaves.

Seascape Escapes

For the fishing enthusiast, in your family, reserve a guided fishing excursion with a professional fisherman. With 2-hour or 4-hour trips available, you can better tailor the length of your excursion. An experienced bass fisherman is there to provide expert instruction. Of course, everything you will need for a successful outing will be supplied.

If fishing isn’t your thing but you really want to get out on the water, you’re in luck!  You can rent motorized boats to take out onto the scenic lakes and lagoons. You needn’t have a destination in mind. Reservations for boat rentals are not required. So, journey to the Water Launch Service and begin your boating adventure. Be sure to take plenty of photos of your high-seas adventures.

At night, set sail for the Pirates & Pals Fireworks Dessert Voyage.  Cruise out to the Seven Seas Lagoon where you may run into some menacing pirates, and then enjoy the spectacular fireworks display over the Magic Kingdom. Kids of all ages will enjoy this sparkling delight, among other activities. As always, there are plenty of chances to get photos taken with some of your favorite Disney characters.

In addition to these exciting options, the Contemporary Resort also supplies guests with the following activity opportunities:

  • Tennis Courts
  • Jogging Trails
  • Fitness Center
  • Beach Volleyball
  • Arcade
  • Childcare Services
  • Free transportation to the parks, and more.

As you can see, Disney’s Contemporary Resort provides plenty of fun for the whole family. There truly is something for everyone. With so many options, your only worry will be deciding what to do first.

For those looking to create cherished family memories, this theatric dining experience is a must.

Maybe you want to skip the theatrics and just enjoy the view. For lunch, brunch, or dinner, delight in the tastes of the West Coast at the California Grill.  Located on the 15th floor of the resort, guests enjoy panoramic views of the nearby lakes, lagoons, and even Cinderella’s Castle.

Their lounge area offers a wide variety of wines, craft beers, and signature cocktails. So, take your time and enjoy a carefree dining experience.

Snacks and Lighter Fare

Since sitting down for long, sumptuous meals isn’t always in the cards, Disney’s Contemporary Resort provides more on-the-go options. Contempo Cafe and Contemporary Grounds both offer all-day snacks and light food selections.  With atrium seating, they’re conveniently situated and provide open and relaxed atmospheres.

Of course, convenience is key. So, if you plan to spend a day at the pool, have no fear. For another great culinary respite, stop by The Sand Bar. With its poolside location, it’s a convenient place to grab refreshment after a day of fun in the sun.

Night owls need not feel left out, either. After all, the Magic Kingdom is an escape for everyone. The Outer Rim and Wave Bar are the places to meet for cocktails and conversation.  Described as chic and breathtaking, both bars offer a glowing ambiance and a variety of crafted drinks.

  1. This hotel looks great. The monorail connection looks particularly useless. Definitely going to bare this one in mind for our next family trip!
