Where to stay? Well, if you’re wanting to be close to the action, you’re best staying downtown. An outdoor pool, a full-service spa, views of the harbor, and centered bang smack in the middle of downtown San Diego – the four-star Omni San Diego Hotel is probably the place to stay if you want to explore the city to its fullest.

Omni San Diego is located on 675 L Street – five minutes’ walk from PETCO Park (San Diego Padres baseball team) and ten minutes from the Embarcadero. This hotel is pretty handy if you want to be close to dining, nightclubs, family-friendly days out or adventure sport (and more).

Room Suites

The rooms of this hotel range from deluxe double rooms, to larger suites of varying sizes and grandiosity, and they also have rooms with disability access.

The rooms get plenty of light due to their floor to ceiling windows, and you’ll have views of the skyline, the bay or PETCO Park. All of the rooms feature pillow-top mattresses, WiFi, bathrobes and 40 inch TVs with movies; you’ll get your own cosy bathrobe and you can request hypoallergenic bedding, too. You can also request a free mini-fridge and in-room dining if needed as well as a free mini-fridge if you need one.

If you’re travelling with children you can also request cribs and infant beds for no extra cost.

With views of downtown San Diego and the Gaslamp Quarter, the basic room of the Omni San Diego hotel is the 360-square-foot Deluxe Room. With either one king size or two double beds fitted with Egyptian cotton linens, these rooms can sleep up two adults with the king size bed and up to four adults with the two doubles.

Next up is the 360-square-foot Premium Room; similar to the Deluxe Room, this room features either one king sized bed or two double beds and hosts two or four adults. These rooms have floor to ceiling window views of the San Diego bay or the downtown skyline.

The 520-square-foot Executive Suite comes next, with a king-sized bed and a separate living room with a full-size sofa bed. Executive Suites sleep two adults with two more on the sofa bed. The floor to ceiling windows show views of the Coronado Bridge and San Diego Bay.

The One Bedroom Suite is the same except you get 640-square-foot space and views of PETCO Park. You can also add a connecting room with two double beds to these suites.

The 650-square-foot Studio Suites has one living area with a king-sized bed and a double sofa bed, sleeping up to four adults. These suites have a wet bar, a fully stocked refreshment bar and an outdoor area with pool.

The 1,600-square-foot Tony Gwynn Suite has a king-sized bed and a separate living room, sleeping two adults. It has a private balcony overlooking the San Diego Bay and a full kitchenette and separate dining area, as well as 2 HDTVs and a desk.

Lastly is the 2,200-square-foot President Jimmy Carter Suite. This has one bedroom and a separate living room. This suite has two private balconies, with views of the San Diego Bay and skyline, as well as two bathrooms, a full kitchenette, a dining area and living room as well as numerous other amenities.

For those who need them, this hotel also has ADA rooms. These accessible rooms have adapted rooms with lower peepholes and visual alarm and phone notification.  The bathrooms have a permanent shower seat and grab bars with a choice of roll-in shower or shower with tub.


As well as having many things to do outside of the hotel, the Omni San Diego has many of its own features and amenities. It has an indoor pool and outdoor terrace with heated pool, jacuzzi, and tanning desk.

The spa is full-service and there is a 24 hour fitness centre with free water and fruit.

In terms of family and dining, the Omni San Diego Hotel offers babysitting and childcare, including in-room childcare for an extra surcharge. The hotel has a Kids Crew program where, upon check-in, children receive a backpack of items designed to keep them entertained.

The outdoor terrace features dining at the Terrace Bar & Grill, as well as there being a restaurant for lunch and dinner, McCormick & Schmick’s, and a coffee bar with deserts and pastries.

The hotel also features a 24 business center, a concierge service, luggage storage and a tour desk. If you drive you can use the hotel’s private parking for an extra cost and there are additional laundry and cleaning services available too.

Dining and Activities

The Omni San Diego Hotel is right in the middle of downtown San Diego, in the Gaslamp Quarter. The Gaslamp Quarter is known for its vibrancy and entertainment and has a rich nightlife.

This West-Coast part of the city is also famed for its historic Victorian architecture and is only a five minute walk from PETCO Park and ten minutes to the Embarcadero. It’s also opposite the San Diego Convention Centre and ten minutes by car to the airport.

You’re connected easily to the rest of the city; the San Diego Trolley is feet away from the hotel’s front door so you’ll be able to reach Mission Valley, Old Town and the rest of the city, just like that. If you’re feeling more adventurous, the Omni Hotel offers bike rentals for a reasonable daily rate. With San Diego known for it’s amazing year-round weather, it’s a perfect way to catch a tan and do some site-seeing!

Closer to the hotel itself, because you’re right in the middle of the city, there are a lot of different things to see and do, as well as a variety of restaurants and bars. You could take a walk around Balboa Park or take a boat around the harbour. There is also close access to bicycle and scooter rentals if you want to explore the city from a more adventurous viewpoint. Or take it easy and let somebody else show you around whilst you’re on Segway city tour.
